The Model Prayer from Matthew 6.  Other passages referenced were James 4:1-3 and 1 John 5:14.  This message originally delivered June 9, 1996.

Kimber Kauffman:

James chapter four, I want you to notice verse one. What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don't they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but don't get it. You kill and covered but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight, you do not have because you do not ask God. Now notice verse three. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. Now to review the first John chapter five. First John five, and look with me just one verse, verse 13, excuse me, verse 14. This is the confidence we have in approaching God, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. This is the competence we have if we ask anything according to His will. Now would you go back with me to Matthew chapter six as we've been studying the model prayer of our Lord. Follow along as I read, starting with verse five, here's the teachings of Jesus Christ, King Jesus to his subjects on prayer, starting with verse five. And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door, pray to your Father who is unseen than your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think there'll be heard because of many words. Do not be like them for your Father knows that you need what you need before you ask him. This is that how you should pray Our Father in heaven, how would be your name, your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread, forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. Now, friends, we bite and I want to do this very quickly, because we spent some time on it this morning, what not to do. Don't be like the hypocrites or the pretenders in verse five. Don't do this. Don't act like that don't pray for to be seen of men. And I have done that so many times in my life. And many of you I'm sure have to where you let people know you've been praying or you know, we've done those kinds of things. But really, that is the whole point of what Jesus says is pray secretly so that only your father knows, close the door, don't let anyone see have a time of secret private prayer. And in doing this, you have faith that God sees you in secret. Now, this is so very important. Don't keep repeating the same things. It's another principle that the pagans who don't know God think that they've got to get his attention by saying the same things over and over or by a long winded prayer, somehow that's gonna get God's attention. But a lot of wars is not equal good prayer. A prayer of faith and simplicity to your heavenly father is of supreme importance. And so there'll be like the hypocrites and the pagans. Remember, you have a father, which of course tells us that we're dealing with a tremendous emphasis on what we should do is be rather secretive about it. Now, this is so interesting to me. But it's true. Jesus Christ teaches that in your own personal prayer life, this is not he's not now talking about corporate prayer. He's not talking about group prayer. He's talking about your private prayer lives, and in your private prayer life, be rather secretive about in other words, do it. So no one knows what you're doing be the opposite of the Hippocrates who tried to shine before men standing on the street corners, you know, showing off. Now you just show off in front of your father and let him see it. Remember, you're praying to your father, verse six, verse eight, verse nine, and boy, how important it is. And I have gotten comments all week long. It's been so encouraging how people have been affected after last Sunday sermon, because they've gone to prayer in the morning. And they've been realizing our Father in heaven, and is inspired faith in their heart as they've gone to seek God. And this is what Jesus Christ is teaching. And I will tell you, when we go by the teaching of Jesus, about prayer, it's going to inspire our faith, help us with our concepts of viewing God properly, and move us and especially as we go through this, you're going to, you're going to see how you're going to be so much more prepared and so much better off when you get to your own personal requests. When we've done it the way Jesus has taught us to do it. So don't try to impress anybody but your father. Remember the prayer is therefore not impersonal mechanical, but it can be free and bold. And again, I'm just gonna move through these quickly to get to where we want to we've, we considered them. One of the things, therefore, we could break it down to three things from last Sunday morning our there's a sense of corporate oneness, you can't just pray you, it's just not you and God, you're not you're connected to a body, the finger just doesn't bounce down the street doing whatever it wants, the finger is the best one is connected to the body and working with the hands. And so we are a part of the body of Christ. And so our prayers are our father. Now notice also Father, how this is so emphasized and taught by Jesus all through the Sermon on the Mount. And then of course, in heaven, the place where God is, and we need to be thinking of where our father is, he's up in heaven while we are down here on Earth. We then, of course, looked at several of the request, the important requests that Jesus Christ teaches and, and I think one of the keys is to see the overview. And I know you've seen this a couple of times, but please let this sink in. I really wanted to get get down in your soul. So you get it. The breakdown of this prayer is there's an address our Father in heaven, and then there six petitions. We study last Sunday night, this one, how will it be Thy name, we say this morning, this one Thy Kingdom come. And now tonight we're going to say this one, your will be done on earth as it isn't heaven. Notice, we're way halfway through this prayer, and we have not addressed anything for ourselves. Remember, this is not emergency prayer. This is not when all of a sudden you're almost going to be in a car wreck. And before the other car hits you, you gotta say our our Father, Father in heaven, you know, you'd have to do that. You can just cry out for God's help and strength. But the point is the thing that drives the engine that drives your prayer life, the general life of prayer that you're to live, is that you're addressing your father, and you begin, I think, first thing in the morning, that's what says, Give us this day, our daily bread. You start your day off with this prayer and you you come to Him as your father saying, May your name be set apart as holy. There'll be a greater fear of you a greater reverence of year a greater desire to honor you may you have the preeminence in my life, and in the life of your church. And then may Your kingdom come to you rule me and my family and in our church, and more and more. And may the Gospel be advanced through my life and our life today. And May May we be concerned about the eschatological coming of Jesus Christ and realize, again, notice how much you have to think about heaven, our Father in heaven, his kingdom coming. And then also, there's another place in here, His will being done on earth as it is in heaven. There's this major, major teaching about thinking of the next world as you go to pray. Now, friends, then how about this one, your will being done, on earth as it is in heaven. This, of course, leads us to remember that we are to be Theo centric in our view of life, not man centered, not thinking what we want, but to be God centered, and to be thinking, you know, what is it that my prayer for who should be first in my prayer list who should be number one on my prayer list? God, our Father in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done. And so first and foremost, we're praying for God. And we take his concerns. And I think one of the things you see in James passage, James says this, here's why your prayers are not answered. Your prayers are not answered because you're praying selfishly, to consume it upon yourself. Well, if there's ever an indicting verse, against what goes on Christian television here in Indiana, Maryland country, that's the verse because we've taken prayer to be over here, we're we're the center of it in Gaza, revolving around to help us rather than being us being there, saying, Lord, we're here to serve you. Now how important this is, and in our understanding of prayer, and how how much faith it should build in our lives. And so as we start working through this prayer, we start noticing the several different relationships we have our Father, we think of the parent child relationship, that is the dominate our thinking, but we also hold the your name, I'm a worshiper, He's sovereign, the deity, made his name, he set apart his holy we, we honor our God by that way. Your kingdom come, we're the subjects He's sovereign, we bow before him. We're here to serve Him and to further his cause. And then how about this, your will be done. He is the master, we're the servants. This continues on we'll talk about it more. But you can see there's many more aspects to this prayer that talk about our relationship to the multifaceted relationship that we have with God. Another thing I like is this attitude of the Spirit seen in prayer. Our is unselfishness. Father is family devotion. Hallowed be Thy name is reverence Thy kingdom come as loyalty and look, when you start off your day in the morning, your will being done. Here's what you're saying. You're saying today Father, may Your will be done through my life through the life of your church, on earth as it is in heaven. In other words, one of the attitudes that should come into your mind as you seek God about prayer about his will and about His kingdom being further and about getting to know him is an attitude of submission. Yours Going to reverence notice you have a look at the way this is masterful if you think about this, it's absolutely masterful the way Jesus Christ lays this out. Because notice, unselfishness the body of Christ family devotion, his father. And not only that, but freedom and boldness, because he's your father. And yet at the same time, how would be your name? It's never that we're so friendly with God, that we just jumped Chum Chum. I mean, the point is there, he's our Father, and we and we have this confidence but at the same time, at the same time, he's also our God. And there's a sense of reverence and his name being said apart is holy. And you say, but killing like a bounce could he just dropped off the father part, let me I made a big deal about that take a little joy in that we made a big deal about that last Sunday morning. But there is still the sense of reverence and that balance there and and I Kingdom Come loyalty, I'm your servant, I'm fighting for your cause. I'm on your side. Here I am today presenting myself you in the handout this Thy will be done. I'm submitting to your will today. I tell you, that's encouraging you stop and think about you say, I would like to get a renewed mind. I would like to be able to get up each day and have some consistency to my Christian life. I would like for there to be instead of being so up and down, I'd like to have some some stamina and some continuation. How about this, you make this your prayer, thy will be done. I'll tell you that we'll put it that will put some gumption in your function that consider that. Of course, there's other things like dependence and penance and humility and weakness. But we'll talk about that in the next couple of weeks. As we go along. Now, we would break this prayer down in the most basic way, then about being God's glory, and then our need. But so far, all we talked about now is God's glory. And again, I would say this, nobody who has not had a reborn heart. Unless we have been regenerated from above, we've been made alive, we've been made new. We have been born again. Nobody is going to make this prayer. Because we aren't going to care about God's name being set apart as holy. We are not going to say May your kingdom be furthered. We are not going to do His will on Earth and delight in it. But let us consider them tonight. In fact, we're going to beat this to death without spending any time here. But let's then spend some time considering this thy will being done on earth, as it is in heaven. How about this, you're approaching God and petition number three that Jesus Christ teaches us is this, pray for the will of God to be done. That God's will will become our will, that God's will will prevail over all the earth, just as it does in heaven. Now, listen to this, this is a little catchy. The fact that Jesus tells us to pray, Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven, reveals to us that God's will is not always done on earth. In God's plan, prayer is essential to the proper working of His Divine Will on Earth. That Christians are so confused today. And I would say this, there are Christians that are so have taken the side. A really misunderstanding the will of God is probably the main problem. But they have taken so much the side of God's sovereignty and left out many, many scriptures that they do not want to face. And they let their logic lead them rather than the Scriptures. And as a result of that, they would say things like this, why should I pray for God's will to be done, God's will always be carried out. But now we have gotten to decide whether we're going to submit to the logic, or we're going to submit to the words of Jesus Christ. Because the words of Jesus Christ here say this, you pray like this, you may Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. So sometimes our theology confuses us about what the Bible says, listen to what MacArthur says in regards to this. If he is sovereign, is not his will inevitably done, does our will override his will when we pray earnestly and sincerely. This is one of the great paradoxes of Scripture, a paradox, about which Calvinist and Arminian said debated for centuries, it should be evident that this paradox like those of God's being three in one and Jesus, being a holy God, and holy man, must be lifted the infinite mind of God because it is far beyond the finite human mind to comprehend. But what seems a hopeless contradiction to us is no dilemma to God. We hold both truths seemingly paradoxical, in perfect tension with faith in the infinite mind of God who resolves all things in perfect noncontradictory truth. It is absolutely clear from scripture that God is sovereign and yet not only allows but commands that man exercise his own volition in certain areas. If man were not able to make his own choices God's command would be futile and meaningless and his punishments cruel and unjust. If God did not act in response to prayer, Jesus's teaching about prayer would also be futile and meaningless. Our responsibility is not to solve the dilemma, but to believe and act on God's truths whether some of them seem to conflict or not to compromise one of God's truths, in an effort to defend another is the stuff of which heresy is made. We are to accept every part of every truth in God's word, leaving the resolution of any seemingly conflicts to him. Attempting on the human level to resolve all apparent paradoxes in Scripture is an act of arrogance and attack on the truth and intent of God's revelation. Let me just give you an illustration here, if even as we pray, God's will be done on earth as in heaven sometimes. And this is so encouraging to me as you go to Acts chapter 12. Turn over to x 12 with me. I want you to see that sometimes, very little faith is involved. Here's this interesting passage of what life in the first century church and an X 12 Hustle over there. And we will pick up started with verse one, a rather well known story, but let's consider this because here's the churches together, praying for the will of God to be done with hardly any faith. Look what happens. Verse one, it was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belong to the church intending to persecute them. He had James the brother of John put to death with a sore when he sold this please the Jews, he proceeded to cease Peter also, this happened during the Feast of Unleavened Bread. After arresting him, he put them in prison, handing them over to be guarded by four squads of four soldiers each. Herod intended to bring him out for public trial after the Passover and a watch. So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers bound with two chains and centuries stood guard at the entrance. Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and the light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side woke him up. Quick, get up, he said, and the chains fell off Peters risks. Then the angel said to him, Put on your clothes and sandals and Peter did so wrap your cloak around you and follow me in the angel told him. Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea what was what the angel was doing was really happening. He thought he was seeing a vision. They passed the first and the second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself. And they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street suddenly the angel left him. Then Peter came to himself and said, Now I know without a doubt that the Lord sent his angel and rescued me from Harrods clutches and from everything that Jewish people were anticipating. When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John also called mark where many people had gathered and we're praying. You know, they're praying for they're praying for Peter. And you know what they're praying. They're praying for God's will to be done regardless to Peter. Peter knocked at the outer entrance and a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer the door. When she recognizes Peters voice. She was so overjoyed, she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, Peters at the door. Notice this response, you're out of your mind. There's a great faith in the early church to answer prayer. You're out of your mind. They told her, when she kept insisting that it was so they said it must be his angel. But Peter kept on knocking. And when they opened the door and saw him they were astonished. And Peter motioned with his hand for them to be quiet and described how the Lord had brought him out of prison. Tell James and the brothers about this, he said, and then he left them for another place. And in the morning, there was no small stir. This ought to be very encouraging to us. And that is in regards this desperate situations like here's one of the apostles is going to be killed. The church needs to pray. But here's what's so encouraging Even sometimes when you go in some impossible situation. You say, Lord, may Your will be done make this happen. Sometimes even with very small faith, God answers. Here's an opposite example. Listen to this story. Here's somebody with great faith. His name was Martin Luther. In 1540, Luthers, great friend and assistant Frederick my CONUS became sick and was expected to die within a short time. On his bed he wrote a loving farewell note to Luther with a trembling hand. Luther received the letter and instantly sent back a reply. I command the in the name of God to live because I still have needed the in the work of reforming the church. The Lord will never let me hear that thou are dead, but will permit the to survive me. For I am praying this is, for I am praying this this is my will and may my will be done because I seek only to glorify the Name of God. The words are almost shocking to us as we live in a more sensitive and cautious day, but they were certainly from God. For although my CONUS had already lost the ability to speak, when Luther Luthers letter came, in a short time he revived, he recovered completely and live six more years to survive Luther himself by two months. You see, friends, we got to understand that that part of the prayer of the converted heart that loves God Is that his name would be hollow, that that the kingdom would be further but listen, that today in our lives, his will would be done. Listen to what James says, in case we just start to doubt and say, Well, God's will will be done no matter what James says this, The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. There's an aspect of really having faith and confidence that as we consider our day, and again, parents, What greater prayer could you possibly make for your children than this? May they walk in your will may my children grew up to do your will as the angels delight to do it in heaven? For our friends, for the people around us, neither will of God be done what should take a higher precedence in our life than the will of God nothing nothing should now there's there's there's a thing to talk about here tonight. I'm not going to do it, I'm just gonna skip it. But there's things to talk about about the is his will have purpose, His will have desire, his will have command. And we start talking about all kinds of different things. But really, I want to just like to see this i The will that has been prayed for here is this, that we would conform to the commands of God, we wouldn't be quick ready, joyously able to carry out the commands of God without griping and complaining and grieving and, and not wanting to do it, we would we would, we would go wholeheartedly after obedience to our God. Just like the angels in heaven do it. That's the way that's the way that we take this texts. All through the Gospel of Matthew, there are several things. For instance, he says, he says things like this. Only he that does the will of my Father wanted the kingdom of heaven. Jesus Christ says in Matthew chapter 12, things like this, my brothers and sisters are those who do the will of God. And all through the Scriptures, we see this, this commitment to the will of God, but I want you to see how it's played out actually, in the life of Jesus in the clearest way, go to the 26th chapter of Matthew with me. And I want you to see this. In Matthew 26. We've read this passage together many times that I want you to pick up with me in verse 36. Now watch this, you want to see the ultimate display. An example of us praying that the will of God will be done. Look at verse 36. Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called disseminator. And he said to them sit here while I go over there and pray. He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. And they, and he said to them, My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me. Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me? Yet not as I will, but as you will? Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping, could you not man have kept watch with me for one hour? Yes, Peter, watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak. He went away a second time and prayed my father if it is not possible, for this come to be taken away, unless I drink it may Your will be done. Now I know I refer to this because so many prayers so many times. But I really believe this, my friends, if you want listen to if you want there to be gusto in your life, if you want your life of faith to be enlarged, if you want the strength of the Spirit of God on your life as you live for him, let me explain this. There is no Seminary in the country that can teach you theology in a better way than a step of obedience will teach you. The greatest way to learn about God is to obey especially when it's hard. And it's a crying shame that Christians in America somehow have not wanted to pray Thy will be done. And here is our Lord, our Lord, serve serving his father notice he cries out to him, Father, if possible, may this cup be taken from me yet not as I will, but as you will Jesus Christ will looks at going to the cross and says, if it's possible, may you take this from me. But then he adds, nevertheless, not my will, but Your will be done. I believe in my heart, that anybody that God has his hand on their life, you are going to come several times in your life to need to make the disseminate prayer. There's going to come times in your life where you look at the future in the future is going to seem so bleak, and so dark and so hopeless and so bad, and you're not going to want to do it. But the great test is this who's in charge King, Jesus or yourself? And the question is going to be, am I going to take the step of obedience and say, Father, by the way, isn't it wonderful that the Our God is big enough that you can argue with him about it a little bit? If possible, may you take this cup from me? It's okay to question. It's okay to doubt it's okay. But you got to come down eventually on the sight of God. And it's okay to ask this question. Well, I really wish I didn't have to do this. But nevertheless, there's got to be a strong, hard sold out commitment that you're going to do the will of God. Listen to what Jesus Christ says. My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me. I seek not my own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. I have come down from heaven not to do my own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. What a great prayer to make in the mornings. What a great prayer to start your day. Our Father in heaven. And your faith is zooming as you realize that you have brothers and sisters that are also praying that same morning, and you're seeking the Heavenly Father, a father that accepts you and listens and cares about his children that listens to his prayers. And he's in heaven. You're on Earth, and you're talking you tell us I mean, I've been all excited about email for the last month, I get so excited when it says you have mail and well, yeah, I got mail. Yeah, I'm so excited. But we're talking about we're talking about our Father in heaven. And we can actually make an approach we can actually approach God in heaven. And then listen, mitt, Lord, here's my prayer. My prayer is that your name would be how old? My prayer is that your kingdom would come and hear, Lord today, but Your will be done in my life. May I be quick to do it? Even when it's difficult, even when it's hard. Maybe I got to forgive somebody, maybe it's gonna be a temptation to talk bad about somebody, maybe it's gonna be some temptation. And there's some area where I've had a continual defeat in my life of some sort. Or it may Your will be done. Wow. What better thing can we pray for what better purpose in life than to live doing the will of God? You know, something, friends, you know something that prayer will do for you. It will humble you. You know why? Let me tell you, the greatest enemy of the will of God is human pride. And listen, when you humble yourself and you obey the Lord, I want you to know something that taking the step of obedience in obeying the Lord is a step of humility. Because you see, he's the master, we're the servants. And every time we obey Him, even when we don't want to, it's a step of humility. And if you want to see proud arrogant people, you show me a group of Christians that know the will of God and refuse to walk in it. And I'm going to show you the most arrogant, haughty people in the world. Because we're saying, I'm not going to serve Kenji is I'm going to go my own way, because I know better. And I see it all the time. I deal with it weekly at our church, or people don't want to obey the will of God. I love this. Because if father, if possibly this cup pass from me, it's okay to struggle, even Jesus did. Stop and think about that. But you've got to come down on the sight of God and this prayer and make it with all your heart and your soul. That you're going to follow Him. Now, I want to just show you a couple of things quickly, and I'm gonna really go through this fast and by the way, Gary did this for us this morning. And we'll have this I think tonight, but any overheads that we use here on Sundays, you can always pick them up, he's hesitant, shrunk down, and there's like several put on a page, front and back and you can pick them up out back or wherever Gary has them everywhere already tonight. Do we have them around the back there? There's some out there this morning if you'd like. But I want you to see this when we're praying His will be done. I peruse this little word fell off. It's the Greek word for will here and peruse it through the scriptures. And I want you to see several things in which we know about His will being done. Right relationships, you cannot not like someone else that walks this earth and being the will of God. You can't do it. It means the right relationship vertically love the Lord thy God will have a heart soul mind strength, Love thy neighbor as thyself. This is the whole teaching of the law, and so not to get along and write relationships horizontally or vertically is, is to be out of the will of God. How about this? For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to every man teaching us to deny ungodliness and worldly loss and to live soberly, righteously and godly lives in this present age. We can take a phrase out of Titus that Paul wrote and take it from Romans six, the will of God for you is not to let sin reign in your body. Which means when you're making this prayer, may Your will be done on earth, it means you're talking about right relationships, keeping your conscience right with God and keeping your relationships right this way. It also means this that you're not going to allow sin to reign in your mortal body. Day after day him or heaven God Maker will be done. tell you we're gonna see deliverance from sin, we're gonna see the power of God in our lives. How about this, this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that you should abstain from sexual immorality, I just quoted First Thessalonians four, three. And that is it is God's will for you to be sexually pure. As the Lord made me sexually pure in this way, how about this, we got a group going to Zambia, we got Vacation Bible School, we've got all kinds of things. And one of the wills of God is for special missionary journeys. read these verses of scripture. And you will see that there's a continual bombardment of the will of God that Paul by God's will, may be able to visit them. So we can say, hey, in regards to in regards to these special journeys, we need to be praying. And by the way, there's no signup sheet out there that you can pray so that while the group is in Zambia, we've got people praying for them every minute of the day. And we'd love for that to that place to be filled up out there. And you may want to sign up out in the back, we'd like to have that. And these people are going 500 miles down a bumpy road way back in the middle of nowhere. Maybe they need prayer, I started panicking about this, the more I start thinking about it, all right. Luke, look, the will of God is most clearly seen by a renewed mind. And so as our minds are renewed, we're going to most clearly see the will of God, or call to the ministry that Paul talks about has the will of God. In matters of giving talks about the will of God, you can look up the scriptures later in regards to saving of people. That is to do with the will of God. And these verses show that the will of God must be something that is understood. We lose it's not just some mystical thing. It's something we grasp with our minds. The will of God should be done from the heart. That's an interesting comment based upon how the angels do in heaven. The will of God includes joyfulness, if you're not joyful, you're out of the will of God, my friend. The will of God includes prayer and thanksgiving, you're not thankful you're out of the will of God. You can look at those verses. It's delivered to those and trapped by the devil. We look at people that just can't seem to break sin that just binding their life. The Bible says the devil has them trapped and we pray that God would deliver them His Will would be to deliver those that have been entrapped in snared by the devil. It also concludes perseverance. It is the will of God that saints would persevere to the end. So we can pray to that end when we consider this will of God. And it's also a testimony to the loss. That is, is we live in the will of God, we are good testimony to the loss. When we suffer for doing good. We're in the will of God. And when we become more holy through suffering, we're in the will of God, this may all make sense because I went through so quickly and I'm I don't want to but you can get these overheads made up from if we don't have out there tonight will happen for you later. But what a great thing to do to beseech God for His will to be done. Now listen to this last phrase, it will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Think about this, would you stop and think about this, if you make this prayer, you're going to need to stop and think and I think it's Jesus's intention for us to address our Father in heaven, but to think regularly as we pray as we pray for the will of God to be done in our lives today on earth, as it is being done right now today in heaven. Well, listen, we had a great discussion at our Southside group block group the other night on last Wednesday night on on heaven. And one to get one guy there gave a great illustration. And that is he had a car that was broken into but the windows were all darkly tinted. And so he said he didn't even know how the person knew what was in his car because the windows were so darkly tinted. But it is the reason that came out so strong is the Bible says this Now we see through a glass darkly but then we shall see face to face. Right now we're not quite sure in fact, in the book that we gave Greg and if you missed it in third service today Greg never got it was given a book by Johnny Erickson Tada delivered by me that she signed and Greg got that book. And And in reading that book to the girls this week, and sorry about reading your book, Greg, but it was a good one. But in reading that book too. The girls, you know, she said, she said this, she says, You know what, at first glance, Heaven doesn't seem that exciting. I mean, how many of you when you think of a pearly gates go all baby Pearly Gates, I can't wait to get there. I mean, you don't really pearly gates. What's so great about pearly gates? When you go streets of gold that you can see through, we go streets of gold that we can see through, but that doesn't sound too exciting. And then it says, there'll be no more see. And John, Johnny Erickson says, mean, I'd love to see I love to see the waves breaking, and there's no more see great, what's so great about heaven. But one thing we do know is he should then she goes on to develop how great Heaven is after but you got to go beyond just the initial thinking about you got to see it with the eye of faith and understand it. But as best we can, as it is revealed in Scripture, but the one thing she says is now we see through glass darkly, Paul says now we see through glass darkly, but then face to face. So now as we look at heaven, we sort of go what is heaven about? And we're not quite sure, it's so great that we but the gods purposely seems to sort of put a blocker there, and we're not able to see so we go, what's so great about him and it's like, we're looking in that car window and it's dark. And you're wondering, you know, am I seeing this correctly? What is it? But now we're seeing through glass darkly, but then we'll see face to face. But we don't know a whole lot about heaven. The Bible says things but it's hard language sometimes. But one thing we do know is that the will of God has been done there. We do know that there's perfect obedience. We do know that people are joyfully doing the will of God. You say, Kim, how do you know that we'll listen in the 100 and third song. If you can beat me there, you can look it up, but I'm just gonna read it to you and I'm already there, says this. Praise the Lord you His angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey His Word. Praise the Lord you His angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey His Word here the psalm is David is he's going around exhorting people praise the Lord bless the Lord, oh my soul, Bless the Lord, blessed Lord, praise him. You bless him, you must. And then he looks into heaven. And it's like he shouts into heaven. And he says, You guys up there. You have to do his bidding. Use it obey His Word, you praise them too. Oh, boy, there's a switch. But David is so fired up, he's gone. You praise them too. And stop and think of what the text says here in the 103rd Psalm and makes this comment listen. He says, Praise the Lord use angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding. It's so interesting. They're they're waiting to carry out the word of God. They're waiting to do his bidding. Who will be his word? Here are the angels of heaven greater beings than us excited, hoping the next gets to do it. When do they get to carry out the will of God? Think about how it's done in heaven. Friends, the will of God done joyfully is the will of God done happily? Is the will of God done a fouzia Stickley? Is it done willingly. Stop and think about it. How is the will of God being carried out in heaven as you go through this period this week and you say Our Father in heaven, hallowed be thy name thy kingdom come, thy will be done. Stop and think of God's will be done in your life in a way that reflects how it's being done in heaven. joyfully, happily enthusiastically. Listen, you angels who are mighty in strength, fulfill His word hearken unto the voice of His Word. So we will do is will by Harken and listening to the voice of His Word to his Bible. It's done with pleasure. David says I delight to do Your will Oh my god, your laws within my heart. That's that's the way it's done in heaven. Don't know about you. But I just stop and think friends of how exciting it is to start your day thinking these kinds of thoughts. Today, my goal in life is going to be whatever I face whatever it is just to do the will of God. So his name could be how set apart is holy and He been given the preeminence so his kingdom would be furthered. And here I am today I'm going to serve him I'm going to do His will. And I'm going to do His will in a way that reflects the way it's done in heaven. Wow. Nick, great to think about it is hallelujah, isn't it? How has it been carried out and listen to this? If I copied Greg's book, Johnny Erickson Tada here's a poem listen to what she writes. You talk about doing the will of God when it's hard or have you been putting the difficult situation? Listen. Listen to what she writes. Though I spend my mortal lifetime in this chair. I refuse to waste it living in despair. And the others may receive gifts of healing. I believe that He has given me a gift beyond compare. For heaven is near to me. And at times it's all I can see. sweet music I hear coming down to my ear and I know that it's playing for me. For I am Christ this save yours own bride and redeemed I shall stand by his side he will say, shall we dance, and our endless romance will be worth all the tears I have cried. I rejoice with him whose pain my savior heals. And I weep with him who still has anguish feels, but earthly joys, and earthly tears are confined to earthly years. And the greater good the Word of God reveals. In this life, we have a cross that we must bear a tiny part of Jesus death that we can share. And one day we'll lay it down, for he has promised us a crown to which our suffering can never be compared. I preach too long. I wanted to have give you more time for testimonies, we'll do that we'll still have time for testimony as you go through this. But listen, the will of God being done by us on a daily basis? May God strengthen his his Word in your life. And may you really me you're really one of my friends said to me on Monday or Tuesday of this week, he said, Hey, I started praying, but I only got to our father and heaven help me the name and then I didn't know what to pray because he hadn't preached any farther. So listen, now you can go all the way through the first half of the prayer. All right. And by the way, I guarantee me you're good at making all those personal requests anyway. All right. You're good at that. Like me. But I think we have a great guy that we should delight in doing His will
